President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said civilian infrastructure was hit even before an air raid alert went out, and that rescue crews were working the scene. He said Ukrainian forces managed to shoot down most incoming targets but couldn’t stop the ballistic missiles, and renewed his call for allies to speed up delivery of air defense packages agreed at this week’s NATO summit.

Russia Launched Over 130 Targets Overnight

Ukraine’s air force said Russia fired six ballistic missiles, six cruise missiles, and 121 drones, with Ukrainian defenses intercepting at least two cruise missiles and 111 drones. A separate missile strike hit the port city of Odesa later that morning, killing two and wounding another, while a drone strike on a civilian business in Kharkiv wounded seven more.

Munitions Shortage Leaves Ukraine Exposed

Ukraine has struggled to intercept ballistic missiles over the past month due to a critical shortage of Patriot air defense munitions, prompting appeals to allies for more supplies and cooperation on developing its own anti-ballistic systems. President Trump said this week Ukraine will get a license to produce its own Patriot interceptors, and Zelenskiy urged that effort move forward as fast as possible.

Kyiv has been striking back at Russian military logistics in southern Ukraine, with drone forces chief Robert Brovdi reporting his units hit 21 fuel tankers and seven other vessels in the Sea of Azov overnight, bringing the week’s total to 76 ships struck.
