Solana Community Leader to Challenge Nigel Farage in Clacton By-Election
Stephen "Cap" Newnham, who heads the Solana focused group Superteam UK, has confirmed he will stand as an independent candidate against Reform UK leader Nigel Farage in the Aug. 13 Clacton by-election.

Stephen “Cap” Newnham, who heads the Solana focused group Superteam UK, has confirmed he will stand as an independent candidate against Reform UK leader Nigel Farage in the Aug. 13 Clacton by-election.
Campaign Pledges Focus on Transparency and Tech
Newnham laid out five pledges this week, covering support for local entrepreneurs, digital and AI education, financial literacy in schools, pension ownership rights, and onchain political transparency. He wants donations and meetings published in plain English and recorded onchain, though he hasn’t yet explained how blockchain would apply to pension management or what legal changes this would require.

Farage Faces Fresh Scrutiny
The by-election was triggered after Farage resigned his seat amid a standards investigation into an undeclared £5 million gift from crypto investor Christopher Harborne. Farage says he broke no rules since the gift came before he took office. He has also faced questions over financial ties to crypto entrepreneur George Cottrell.
Binface Leads Early Polling
An Ipsos poll of 1,000 UK adults found 33% would prefer satirical candidate Count Binface to win, against 21% for Farage, though this reflects national opinion rather than Clacton voters specifically. The official candidate list is expected by July 17.
