Tether Gold has been designated an Accepted Spot Commodity within the Abu Dhabi Global Market, opening the door for regulated firms in the financial center to offer services tied to the tokenized gold asset.
What the Recognition Means
Firms operating within ADGM can now provide services involving XAUT, provided they hold the necessary regulatory permissions. The move builds on ADGM’s earlier decision to recognize Tether’s USDt as an Accepted Fiat Referenced Token, adding another regulated product to the company’s presence in the Middle Eastern financial hub.
Company and Regulator Respond
Tether chief executive Paolo Ardoino said the designation gives regulated firms a clearer route to offering XAUT to their clients. ADGM said the recognition supports business growth by widening the range of products and services available to companies based there.

Data from DefiLlama shows Tether Gold’s total value locked has grown sharply over the past year, climbing from roughly $826 million to about $2.86 billion. The token is also expanding beyond simple trading and custody. In June, Bitcoin lending platform Ledn said it would add XAUT as loan collateral later this year, letting borrowers access funds against their gold holdings without selling them.
RWA.xyz data shows tokenized commodities now hold a distributed value of about $4.46 billion, representing nearly 13% of the broader $34.73 billion tokenized real-world asset market.
