US President Donald Trump said the ceasefire agreement with Iran is not a final deal and warned that military action could resume if the agreement does not meet US expectations. Speaking at the G7 summit in France on June 17, Trump described the accord as a “memorandum of understanding” and said the US could return to bombing if Iran does not comply.
He stated, “If I don’t like it, we’ll go back to shooting at them, dropping bombs on their head,” highlighting the fragile nature of the current truce framework.
Interim Deal Extends Ceasefire Talks
The US-Iran agreement extends an earlier April ceasefire by 60 days to allow negotiations toward a permanent settlement. The deal also includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz from Friday and ending the US blockade of Iranian ports, according to reports.
G7 Leaders Support Negotiations but Stress Security Concerns
Leaders of the G7 countries welcomed the interim deal and called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon. They also expressed concern about Iran’s nuclear program and regional activities, stating that Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon.
Oil Prices Fall on Supply Expectations
Oil prices declined following expectations that the Strait of Hormuz could reopen, easing supply fears. Brent crude fell below $80, marking its lowest level since the start of the conflict, as markets reacted to potential improvements in global oil flows.
