US-Iran Standoff Risks Fresh Conflict as No Deal Emerges Over Nuclear and Hormuz Control
The United States and Iran remain stuck in a high-risk standoff after months of indirect negotiations mediated by Pakistan failed to produce a deal. The conflict follows earlier US-Israel strikes, with both sides now holding firm positions and no exit strategy in sight. Analysts warn the situation is becoming a prolonged war of attrition with rising chances of renewed conflict.

Hormuz Strait Control and Nuclear Demands Divide Both Sides
The US is demanding Iran stop uranium enrichment for up to 20 years and transfer its enriched stockpile abroad. Iran rejects this, calling its nuclear program, missile capability, and control of the Strait of Hormuz essential for national survival. Tehran is also demanding an end to military strikes, security guarantees, sanctions relief, and recognition of its sovereignty over Hormuz, all of which Washington has refused.
Economic Pressure and Escalation Risk
The Strait of Hormuz, which handles about 25% of global oil trade and 20% of LNG flows, remains a central pressure point. Iran continues to use its strategic position as leverage, while both sides believe time is on their side, increasing the risk of miscalculation and further escalation.
