VanEck Launches a Multi-Asset Fund That Keeps a Small Slice of Its Portfolio in Bitcoin

VanEck rolled out a new actively managed fund on Tuesday called the Wealth Builder ETF, trading on NYSE under the ticker WBMO. Instead of picking individual securities, it holds a mix of VanEck funds and outside ETFs covering global stocks, bonds, gold and other real assets. The firm handles the allocations and rebalances them as conditions shift. Bitcoin is a small part of the mix, and the fund gets that exposure through a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded product, not by holding the coin directly.

The target weight for Bitcoin is 2%, and managers are allowed to move it anywhere between 1% and 5%. That cap keeps the asset from dominating a portfolio built mainly around traditional holdings.

Why VanEck Is Moving Beyond the 60/40 Model

David Schassler, who leads multi-asset solutions at the firm, argued that the classic 60/40 split of stocks and bonds was designed for a different era. In his view, adding real assets next to those two pillars may help investors handle a wider set of economic conditions.

VanEck Crypto Push and Asset Size

The product arrives months after VanEck teamed up with retirement platform Basic Capital in March, a deal that made some of its digital asset products available inside US employer-sponsored 401(k) plans. The company oversaw about $244.1 billion in assets as of September 30.
