XRP And Ether See Rising Retail Optimism As Prices Slide, A Warning Sign For Traders
Retail investors are showing growing enthusiasm for XRP and ether even as both tokens trade lower, a pattern that market watchers often interpret as a caution flag rather than a sign of an upcoming rebound.

Retail investors are showing growing enthusiasm for XRP and ether even as both tokens trade lower, a pattern that market watchers often interpret as a caution flag rather than a sign of an upcoming rebound.
Bullish Chatter Climbs As Prices Fall
Social media sentiment around XRP turned its most positive in five weeks on Monday, with bullish comments outnumbering bearish ones by more than three to one, according to on-chain analytics firm Santiment. Ether showed a similarly upbeat tone, while bitcoin sentiment stayed closer to neutral. Notably, both bitcoin and ether opened the day higher before fading, meaning the loudest optimism is concentrated on the tokens actually losing ground.

Why Crowd Enthusiasm Can Backfire
Analysts commonly treat spikes in social sentiment as a contrarian indicator, since excitement among retail traders tends to build right before short-term price tops rather than ahead of rallies. Santiment noted that crowd expectations and actual price direction often move in opposite directions, suggesting that heavy bullishness on smaller tokens during a price dip can extend near-term weakness or delay any recovery.
Bitcoin’s more neutral reading was viewed as a healthier signal by comparison, since it points to narrow speculation in smaller tokens rather than broad market-wide greed. XRP was trading near $1.07, down for the week.
