De La Espriella celebrated the result in Barranquilla, promising to improve security, strengthen the economy and govern for all Colombians. The lawyer and political newcomer gained support with his tough stance on crime, plans to expand the oil and gas sector and proposals to reduce the size of the government.

Ivan Cepeda Requests Final Vote Verification

Cepeda urged supporters to wait for the official verified count, saying his campaign is challenging results from thousands of ballot boxes. He also called for political dialogue and protection of social programs introduced under President Gustavo Petro.

The election highlighted deep divisions in Colombia over security, economic policy and peace negotiations with armed groups. While De La Espriella promised to end talks with criminal organizations, critics warned that tougher policies could increase tensions in conflict hit regions.

The new president will also face major economic pressure, including high public debt and a divided Congress that may slow reforms.
