Asian equity markets also weakened, with Japan’s Nikkei falling close to 3% to its lowest level in over a month, while Australia’s benchmark index and Nasdaq futures both slipped.

Strikes Hit Southern Iran as Oil Prices Stay Calm
Iranian state media reported that U.S. strikes targeted several bridges and a maritime control tower in the country’s south. Despite the escalation, oil prices remained largely unchanged, holding steady near $79 per barrel.
Trump’s China Election Claims Add to Market Jitters
Adding to the uncertainty, President Trump declassified intelligence material alleging Chinese interference in U.S. elections, claiming Beijing had obtained records on 220 million American voters.
China’s embassy denied the accusations. Analysts noted that while the dispute itself may not directly move markets, it introduces fresh friction into U.S.-China relations ahead of a planned meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in September. The Australian dollar, often viewed as a proxy for China-related sentiment, weakened against the U.S. dollar following the announcement, reflecting broader concerns that renewed tension between the two countries could spill over into other risk assets, including Bitcoin.
