Authorities Cite Lack of Player Safeguards

Spanish regulators highlighted concerns over missing protections for users. They said the platforms did not provide strong safeguards for minors or systems for self-excluded gamblers. Authorities also pointed to weak identity checks, raising risks for consumer protection.

The blocking order is temporary but will stay in place during the investigation process, which is expected to last around three to four months.

Over the past 30 days, Kalshi recorded roughly $5.9 billion in trading volume while Polymarket about $3.8 billion

Global Crackdown on Prediction Markets Expands

Spain now joins a growing list of countries restricting prediction markets. Indonesia and India have already blocked similar platforms, while countries including France, Germany, the UK, Australia, Belgium, and others have also imposed limits.

Together, Kalshi and Polymarket dominate the sector, accounting for most global trading volume, which has intensified regulatory attention worldwide.
