Trump Voters Criticize Iran Deal Ahead Of Midterm Elections

Most of 18 Trump voters interviewed by Reuters criticized the June 14 interim agreement with Iran, which reopened the Strait of Hormuz, lifted oil sanctions temporarily, and set up a $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran. Pilot Terry Alberta said the US should have truly weakened Iran's regime instead of stepping back. A Reuters/Ipsos poll found only a quarter of Americans think the war was worth its costs, and most doubt the truce will last.

Juan Rivera said Trump criticized past presidents for negotiating with terrorists yet did the same thing himself. Some Trump supporters told Rivera they feel unmotivated to vote in November given the president’s handling of the war.

Some Fear It Could Hurt Republicans

Steve Egan said Trump’s endorsement is now “the kiss of death” for him after souring on the president over tariffs and the war’s costs. Robert Billups said he no longer leans Republican and will vote based on strategy rather than party. The White House defended Trump’s record, calling his diplomacy “remarkable.”

Others Still Believe In A Bigger Plan

Six more loyal voters, including Kate Mottl and Rich Somora, still believe Trump has secret plans to topple Iran’s government eventually. Analysts say the war has actually strengthened Iran’s clerical rulers. Joyce Kenney supported lifting sanctions but opposed funding Iran’s reconstruction, saying “that’s not our responsibility.”
