Efforts to move forward with long term US-Iran peace negotiations faced new uncertainty after planned talks in Switzerland were postponed. The discussions were expected to focus on technical details linked to the recently signed agreement that ended more than three months of regional conflict.

US Vice President JD Vance reportedly canceled travel plans for the meeting, while Iranian negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf was also not expected to attend. Swiss officials confirmed the talks would not take place on Friday but said diplomatic preparations were still continuing behind the scenes.

Lebanon Violence Threatens Ceasefire Progress

The delay comes as fighting intensified again in Lebanon. Israeli strikes and Hezbollah attacks caused fresh casualties, adding pressure to the fragile ceasefire framework connected to the US-Iran agreement.

The interim deal gives both countries 60 days to negotiate unresolved issues, including Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions relief, missile restrictions and reconstruction funding. Iranian leaders warned they would reject additional demands from Washington, signaling that future negotiations could remain difficult despite the temporary peace agreement.
