US-Iran Peace Talks Uncertain After JD Vance Cancels Geneva Visit

U.S. Vice President JD Vance canceled his planned trip to Geneva, where American and Iranian officials were expected to begin technical talks on a new 14-point peace agreement signed earlier this week. The deal extended a fragile 60-day ceasefire after months of war that killed thousands and damaged regional stability.

Iran signaled caution before the meeting. Officials in Tehran said the country wanted clear signs that Washington would start implementing the agreement before more negotiations take place. Iran also questioned the need for another formal signing ceremony in Switzerland after both presidents already approved the deal.

Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei warned that nuclear negotiations would not be easy if the United States made “too many demands.” The agreement includes sanctions relief, access to frozen Iranian assets and international inspections of uranium facilities.

Meanwhile, Israel continued airstrikes in Lebanon against Hezbollah, raising fresh doubts about whether the wider regional ceasefire can survive.
